Custom Greeting Card User Experience Exposed!
I had one thing in mind: get custom holiday cards printed pronto to send out to business clients. I didn’t want the printer’s logo on the back, so I skipped the consumer printers, like Kodak Gallery (though they may have that option; I didn’t check). I compared two online printers I’ve used before for business cards: Overnight Prints and Vista Prints. But the best user experience and Web content was delivered by another site all together.
Shopping for Custom Greeting Cards at Vista Print
Vista Print had the greeting card size I wanted, but it was tough to figure out how much it was all going to cost. All of the printing options are itemized, but not explained.
A bullet mentions that envelopes are extra, but there’s no way to see how much extra unless I actually upload my image and go through the process. Envelopes aren’t included?
and Overnight Prints …
So I switch over to Overnight Prints to see if they charge for envelopes. The greeting card page is much more simplified, but there’s no “more info” or “details” link on what comes with the product. I click “pricing” and get prices, but it doesn’t specify what’s included.
Front and back? Full color? Seriously — envelopes?? Shipping?
The Best User Experience: Simple Card
Frustrated, I visit Modern Postcard just to see if they have a greeting card option. They do; it’s called Simple Card, and when I get to the SimpleCard.com homepage, I sigh with relief. Everything I need — all the right Web content in the right place — to know to make a purchase decision is right there:
- Starting price.
- Quality of paper.
- What’s included: envelopes AND gift boxes.
- How it works.
And it’s so clean and easy too. I’m sold, and I don’t even know yet if their print quality is any good. SimpleCard.com is a beautiful example of an easy user experience.
Yeah, What About Print Quality?
I’ve had trouble with color matching on my business cards with both Vista and Overnight Prints, and I had pretty low expectations sending my red and orange image to Simple Card. But I went ahead and bought a bundle and crossed my fingers. I was extremely pleased. They came in a ribbon wrapped box, and the colors were just what I expected. Made my holiday beginnings very happy!
