How to Get Free Site Usability
How do you know your site is working as well as it could? Where do you get your best ideas for “phase 2″ improvements?
Your customers. You need usability.
Usability Works Wonders
| Your customers may not know exactly what they want. (Although you do sometimes get lucky.) And they may not know exactly how you should improve. But they are pretty good at expressing their feelings about your site and services.
From there, you can make your site experience exponentially better for them. Plus, you’ll get tons of ideas for future attractions. |
If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said, “Faster horses.”

Collecting Feelings
Here are a few ways to collect your customers’ needs and ideas:
- Send ‘em a survey. SurveyMonkey.com offers a free version.
- Watch ‘em use your site. You can hire a professional service to recruit and interview individuals, or for free feedback, enlist the help of your employees’ friends and family. Ask them to visit the office and watch how they interact with your site. Ask them to think out loud.
- Create an online forum for loyal customers to get sneak peeks at new site projects and talk amongst themselves. They may love it or hate it — just listen and take notes.
